Plaza Bolivar
The Plaza Bolivar is also known as the Plaza of Congress or Plaza of the Inquisition as it is surrounded by the Legislative Palace which is the seat of the Congress of Peru, and the site of the former Tribunal of the Inquisition. It is located in the Barrios Altos neighborhood of the Historic Center of Lima, the capital of Peru. The usual place to start discovering Bogotá is Plaza de Bolívar, the heart of the original town. In the middle of the square is a bronze statue of Simón Bolívar (cast in 1846), the work of an Italian artist, Pietro Tenerani. This was the first public monument erected in the city.
Santuario De Monserrate
The Virgen Morena de Montserrat, patroness of Catalonia, whose replica – called “La Moreneta” – was kept in the church. The hill is a pilgrim destination, as well as a tourist attraction. In addition to the church, the summit contains restaurants, cafeteria, souvenir shops and many smaller tourist facilities. Monserrate can be accessed by aerial tramway, a funicular or by climbing, the preferred way of pilgrims.
Catedral de Sal de Zipaquira
The story of the Cathedral of Salt of Zipaquira is certainly one of persistence. The original cathedral was carved out of an active salt mine beginning in 1950. Inaugurated in 1954, the cathedral the only lasted for 36 years before authorities, worried about its structural soundness, shut it down. This, however, did not deter the town of Zipaquira.
Iglesia del Divino Niño Jesús del 20 de Julio
This is one of the busiest temples in the city, thanks to the devotion of thousands to the likeness of the Divine Child. Salesian priest Juan del Rizzo convoked the community of the 20 de Julio neighborhood to raise the necessary funds for its construction.
